Cher makes brutally honest admission about her dating life that many people can relate to

Cher has meant a lot of things to a lot of people over her decades in entertainment. Known for her smoky contralto vocals, Cher has sold hundreds of millions of records while emerging as a gay icon and branching out successfully into television and film -- including an Academy Award for Best Actress, which she won for her performance in 1987's "Moonstruck."

Cher has also garnered intrigue for her personal life, including her relationships with sons Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman. The "Goddess of Pop" has also long been a tabloid mainstay for her romantic relationships -- notably, and recently, with a much-younger man. In an appearance on "The Jennifer Hudson Show", Cher finally opened up as to why her preferences have shifted as she approaches her 78th birthday.

In a sit-down interview with Jennifer Hudson, Cher spilled the beans amid growing interest in the nature of her relationship with Alexander Edwards -- a music executive 39 years her junior. Her reasoning for dating the 38-year-old Edwards seems fairly straightforward. "Men my age or older, well, now they're all dead," Cher explained, while adding that older men "were always terrified" to approach her.

Cher released a Christmas-themed album, simply titled "Christmas," last October, and its lead single "DJ Play a Christmas Song" made her the only artist in music history to have a single reach #1 on a Billboard chart in seven consecutive decades. In addition, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland earlier this year for her decades as a prominent and trendsetting recording artist. In her interview with Hudson, Cher further confirmed that she once had the chance to date rock and roll legend Elvis Presley -- but, ironically, she said she was nervous about his reputation and his off-stage persona. Fans will be left to wonder what that duo could have accomplished in the 1970s.
